The Whole30 Challenge

Updated: Oct 14, 2018

Whole 30, a 30 day elimination diet challenge where one does not eat legumes (beans, corn), grains, dairy nor any added sugar. In case you didn’t know, sugar is in EVERYTHING… I’m talking about bacon, ketchup, salad dressings, steaks, grilled chicken...

The first few days were tough due to the limited amount of options. And let me just tell you that I have truly never eaten so many cashews in my life.

The sugar cravings were hard to fight, and never really went away. However, I was able to fill those cravings with fruits such as strawberries.

Doing whole 30 is a true commitment, one that is not to be cheated on. Of course, there are times when you can’t steer away from 100% of the eliminated items like when eating out.

Since the challenge, my skin cleared almost completely up and I stopped feeling so sluggish all the time. Once returning to eating foods that I had been eating, I realized that they weren’t as good as I remembered. And not only were the foods not as good, but they didn’t make me feel “good” either. I would definitely recommend this challenge to anyone who is looking to cleanse their system and make healthier lifestyle choices.

I think the hardest part of this challenge was the social aspect. Not that I didn't eat out, but I had never really thought of how difficult it is to meet up with friends without grabbing a coffee or treat from downtown.

Remember that it’s never too late to start a goal. Don’t let your previous failed goals stop you from continuing to fight for what you want. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
